Filmation She-Ra Model Sheet:
Grizzlor

Presenting the first of the Filmation She-Ra model sheets I am adding to the site: Grizzlor! Since he is covered on only three sheets out of the box full of reference I own, I figured he'd make an easy quick opening act for this continuing feature at the site. Enjoy!

"The Ultimate Battleground Battle Bracket"
Round 1 Battle:
Stratos Vs. Skeletor

Since this one involved one of the main bad guys from the franchise, Blaze and I recorded a video for this installment...

Snout Spout
Heroic Water Blasting Firefighter

Photobucket

Real Name: Jaxton

A peasant from Etheria, Jaxton was one of three athletes abducted by Hordak and cast into his experimentation matrix. There, like the others, Jaxton was grafted with cybernetic parts giving him both amazing powers and a bizarre form. After crossing through a Laser Gate to Eternia with The Evil Horde, Snout Spout escaped and joined with the renegade Masters of the Universe. Self-conscious about his appearance and called "Snout Spout" for his abilities to blast water from his cybernetic trunk, Jaxton often feels that everyone is always laughing at him. But when the Snake Men slither out and enemies attack, Snout Spout blasts them back with a super jetspray!

New Site Feature-
Filmation She-Ra Model Sheets!

Hey everybody! I recently purchased a nice collection of Filmation She-Ra model sheet packets and I thought you guys might enjoy checking them out with me. There are entire folders dedicated to She-Ra, Bow, and Swiftwind... as well as a stack or two of Horde members! Some characters only have a page or two of turnarounds, while others go into every little detail. Really cool stuff!

I'm kicking things off by scanning in the Horde sheets first. I figured it would be cool to let you guys tell me which member you'd like to see me start with. So take a gander at this cover sheet and tell me where to start!

"The Ultimate Battleground Battle Bracket"
Round 1 Battle:
Preternia Disguise He-Man Vs. Webstor

Photobucket

He-Man tread through the murky landscape of the decimated Preternian village. The dreaded Snakemen had made quick work of this town. Broken pieces of pottery, discarded makeshift weapons, and the lost toy of a child littered the empty promenade. He-Man felt a rage burning in his gullet. He knew that the Sorceress had told him not to interfere, lest he change the course of time... but his desire to help these poor, beleaguered townspeople against the dominant forces of King Hiss was quickly overpowering his oath to the Sorceress. As his indignation rose, He-Man began scouring the area in search of his foes. Perhaps a straggling Snake warrior had stayed behind to pick at the pieces?

A movement in the inky blackness of the forest near the village caught He-Man's attention. He stalked cautiously into the wooded area and surveyed his surroundings, scanning back and forth for signs of trouble. Nothing. Just his imagination playing tricks in this foreign land...

Suddenly, a purple object shot down from above and caught He-Man in a glancing blow to the chin, causing him to drop his blaster. Foolish... he hadn't thought to look up in the trees. Shaking off disorientation, He-Man raised his eyes towards the source of assault. Straining to make out anything in the dense darkness, He-Man saw the shape of a humanoid standing in the trees. He-Man's hand shot into his cloak and fingered the grip of his sheathed Sword of Power. "Show yourself, Snakeman! And prepare to answer for your crimes!"

As the figure moved into the moonlight, He-Man's jaw dropped. Webstor?!? Here, now? In Preternia? How could this be?

"So... A foolish villager has stepped into my web. Now he must pay the price." spat He-Man's arachnid foe as he once again slipped into the darkness.

He-Man lessened the grip on his power sword and let it remain sheathed. If this truly was Webstor, he couldn't risk pulling his sword. The Sorceress had disguised him for a reason, so drawing his sword now could possibly give away his true identity to Webstor if he too came from the future. Whirling on his heels, He-Man tried to discern Webstor's location by sound alone, since his vision was almost useless here.

A shot from Webstor's blaster rang out from the trees, causing He-Man to dive out of the way. Rolling into a crouched position, He-Man again scoured his surroundings. He quickly realized that the gunfire wasn't meant to hit him at all. Webstor had used the firing assault simply to maneuver him into the open. He-Man tried to move back to the cover of the trees. But it was too late. Webstor's grapple fired out, encircling He-Man's legs in flash. The metallic cord wound around He-Man's ankles, cutting into his boots as it tightened. He-Man hastened to free himself. Ripping the cord from his bleeding ankles, he struggle to his knees... only to look up into the barrel of Webstor's rifle.

"Sorry friend. It appears your luck has just run out." hissed Webstor.

And as he listened to the energy build up inside the weapon, anticipating an explosive release, He-Man's last thoughts were of disappointment. He had failed himself, he had failed the Sorceress, and worst of all... he had failed all of Eternia by allowing himself to die in the past.

Dice roll: PD He-Man 3, Webstor 4
Winner: WEBSTOR!

(Congrats if you made it all the way through that... Most results won't be like this. I just kinda felt like writing a short story for this one after taking the picture...)

Original Series Prototypes:
Trap Jaw

While digging through the old UK Annuals to find reference for a friend's project, I was reminded about the original series prototypes used as figure reference photos in the 1984 release! I thought some of you might not have seen these before, so I'll be scanning them up and adding them to the site... First up (of course)- Trap Jaw!

"The Ultimate Battleground Battle Bracket"
Round 1 Battle:
Mer-Man Vs. Orko

For the first battle, Blaze and I recorded a video special showing the "fight"...

Ask Matty!
November 15th 2011

Hey all! Here's the November 15th Q & A!

Photobucket

1.) You recently revealed that the 2012 SDCC exclusive will cost $30 instead of $25 like the previous 2 years. Just to manage expectations- Is this just due to the rising cost of figures or should we expect a little something more from next year's exclusive?

A little of both.

2.) Though I personally LOVE the Horde Prime figure, some folks were a bit disappointed that this character didn't get the large-sized figure treatment. Can you tell us why the decision was made to do Horde Prime as a regular-sized character?

From Toy Guru:

"Originally Horde Prime (whom we were calling Horde Supreme) was going to be our club exclusive figure. Before we had Filmation rights, he was extremely unique as he was a Filmation character that was never actually seen. This was a bit of a loophole (normally we are not ones to go for "loopholes", but oddly this one was legally clearly open to us so we went for it) and we thought doing Horde Supreme would be a great Club Figure because no one had seen the face and he was "slightly" Filmation without stepping on their rights (again, because he was never actually seen in the show). Our idea was (and still is!) people would see the face for the first time on the figure. When we got the Filmation rights the loophole of doing Supreme/Prime was less special as we had rights to all Filmation characters and we scrambled to get Shadow Weaver into the line to celebrate this. But we really didn't want to loose out on doing Horde Prime/Supreme so he was bumped to another spot in the year (and that figure was bumped out of the year entirely to accommodate the addition of Shadow Weaver and retaining of Prime). So I suppose the answer to your question is he was standard size because he was originally slotted in as the Club Figure which was a standard sized figure due to the 20.00 sign up fee."

3.) It has been stated for awhile now that you are looking into better shipping for international fans... but things are still the same. Is this something you are still looking into, or are international fans just stuck with the current options?

Yes, this is still something we are actively exploring. For domestic customers too!

4.) Another international shipping question- There was mention that you were trying to "un-combine" the forcibly combined subs, as many international buyers would prefer they still ship separately. Is there some definite solution at hand?

We are still working on locking in a solution.

5.) Have you guys considered perhaps giving the Wind Raider a special sale date earlier in the month (like say, December 1st), similar to what you did last year with the PKE Meter for Ghostbusters? The earlier date would help avoid site traffic and gives buyers a better chance at having them before Christmas. Plus, since this is the first vehicle in the line, a separate sale would make it feel a little more special!

No, it will go on sale on the same date to help customers save on shipping.

Thanks again to Mattel for taking the time to do this!

Webstor
Evil Master Of Escape

Photobucket

Real Name: Araneus, son of Raknus

One of the last remaining members of an ancient Eternian race of Spider Warriors called the Arachna, Webstor was awoken from hibernation beneath Snake Mountain and occasionally allies himself with Skeletor. In ancient times, the Arachna were an advanced dominant race until driven underground by the Snake Men. Araneus retains much of the knowledge of his people and while seemingly savage, is an expert mathematician and strategist, as well as an accomplished escape artist. He often arms himself with a grappling hook Fast Pack and uses his climbing power to escape capture!
